    Can't vouch for our overseas friends, but here in the States it's Memorial Day Weekend--sort of celebrated as the first weekend of summer. Lots of folks out on a short vacation. Only have about half of my students in the dorm...just took one out on a picture-taking outing as we move to a different campus next year. It's close to 90 degrees Fahrenheit and not a cloud in the sky. HOT!!!! Gorgeous sun though. :-D

    A few pics that don't do the subjects justice:

    These tiles were absolutely STUNNING in the sunlight, the picture didn't capture it well enough...

    ...and one of my favorite credos--there's so many wordings of this around, but you get the idea:

    Acknowledges the humanity in all of us and encourages us to acknowledge each other.

    Tons more piccies but I think this is enough to go on with. Was just diggin' the peaceful vibe at the Bahai Temple today. 8)

    EDIT: Son of a biscuit. Forgot to use the thumbnails links...and have closed out all the windows!!! If you want me to redo all these, just let me know, otherwise I'll leave 'em...

    Hi, Michi!! Memorial Day is actually celebrated as the day we remember all our war veterans & soldiers currently fighting in wars. It shouldn't be a day of partying, but a lot of folks tend to celebrate it as such :cry:

    Yes, Gina's right... the day honors veterans and current soldiers... And, for the record, this has to be the first Memorial Day weekend that the weather doesn't suck! It usually does here in BeerTown, which is why I usually don't mind working... GO FIGURE!! this weekend is beautiful..

    Well, anyway, a big THANKS!! to those men and women keeping the peace, etc., here, there and everywhere...

    Sounds like a really important day 'though I'm waiting for the day that soldiers aren't needed anymore!

    Hey Shannon! Are you sure you want to come over to Northern Europe??? Your pictures look so fantastic (don't resize them, they are great), so much like summer, warm and sunny... am a bit jealous now!! Really, it's rainy and cold here for about the last 2 weeks already. First half of May was wonderful, but now it's just ... ummm... I don't have any words :?

    Glad you like the piccies though. :D

    90° Fahrenheit (32°C)?! Sounds nice and warm 8). I just had to convert it to °C
    Fahrenheit ->Celsius °C = (°F – 32) / 1.8 <--- many thanx to Wikipedia for the formula

    Just have a look: today's weather in Germany :?

    We here in Australia celebrate a similar day in April. It is called ANZAC DAY. Australian,New Zealand Army Corp. The name created in WW1 and the date is the date of the 'diggers' landing in Galipoli. 25 April.

    Although now ANZAC Day covers all defence services and thier support eg The Australian Womens Land Army.

    We lost our last WW1 digger earlier this year and the march on ANZAC Day is now becoming depleted of WW11 diggers as they gradually pass on. I guess that's the way it will go. I just hope that people don't forget the sacrifice these people made all in the name of FREEDOM.

    Dare I say more. :top
