Apart from the new album, what is one song you want to hear Simply Red play live this summer?
For me (which it wont' be, 'cause I won't be there) :-( , it would be 'You've Got It'.
I so love that song, but Mick doesn't seem to give it a guernsey any more.

Great choices ladies~ love them both. I would like to hear Ocean and Suffer!!!!Two entirely different songs but both with such emotional depth.
However~ I would listen to him sing Mary Had a Little Lamb if thats what it took to get them to the US :)

Michi: big difference when "More" is played live. Before Steve Lewinson, "More" was played with a heavier bass-thumping sound. Now it's played a bit light for Diana's & my tastes (and opinion) :wink:

Steve's bassline is better in my opinion. Its more groovy and pleasant to listen to. It's clearly to hear that mister Bowers wasn't at the level as Steve is.

And that the bass isnt that loud in the new version as it is in the old version is merely because of the mixing done in the studios.

It really is a subjective matter...
There's so many factors that make them different.
Within the basses themselves--
--different pickups
--different body materials
--different fretboard materials
--different strings
--etc.
Then of course, they each played/play through different amps and cabinets...
...and their playing styles are nothing alike! Tony's was far more percussive; Steve's fingerstyle is whisper light.
Plus the mixing issues as Tijn noted.
Result--two totally different interpretations of the same groove! And, me personally, I like them both, BECAUSE they are so different...each captures the essence of the particular bassist's vibe. Tony's had some rock/funk thump goin' on; Steve's has a laid-back, almost reggae-like lilt to it.
But the original topic was what you'd want to hear live this summer--and that's where Michi's point comes in. Tony hasn't played with SR since '90, so hearing his version live is quite out of the question at this point.
Upside--you can hear his version all year long on the 'New Flame' album! :D
And if you want the live vibe, there are some good bootlegs from the New Flame era floating around out there...just requires lots of looking and a crowbar in the wallet.
Now, on the subject of different bass sounds...let me go acclimate Jade to her new home. :wink:

If I can choose more than one, than I'd love to hear Say you love me and Infidelity, they weren't on the set list at the NEC.

Well I decided to listen to both versions of More and I agree with you michi, I think both versions are just fine. Both Tony & Steve play the bass quite well on their versions. So I really don’t care how the song is played. I just wanna hear it!!!!! And I’m no musician either so I cannot say one guy is better playing the bass than the other. They are both good to me! Much better than I ever could since I can’t even whistle a tune. :whistle

The first time I've heard it live was in Bremen (December 03)! I stood front row and I'm sure you could hear me screaming all through the hall just in the moment when Mick started to whisper "we used to meet..." :roll: :oops: it was such a silent moment and I had to scream :oops: :lol: ...I think he recognized me :D

I see that "more" is a big hit among fans, (if I remeber well it was the one that brought the NEC on their feet back in November), but I must say that it's not in my SR top 20.

I always like to hear " the right thing" , "a new flame" and "fairground" ( the version of last december), but I think this is standard in a SR concert .
If I could choose a song, I wish to hear "come to my aid" or "heaven" or both(?).

All versions.....all sound good to us......

The last time this was played live to the best of my knowledge was on the last date of the Stars tour I was there & it was brilliant, quite funny because they messed it up a couple of times, but Mick said that even back then they didn't play it very often... Maybe Someday
I've been lucky in the past because I have had requests I've posted on the main site granted. Got to here How Could I Fall? a couple of times live & not just on the Stars tour either yay :-D
