Which are the books worth reading?
Hey :)
I know there are a lot of books written about ABBA, and they all vary a lot in quality.

The ones I've read are Bright Lights, Dark Shadows -The Real Story of ABBA, The Complete Guide to Their Music, Människorna och musiken, From ABBA to Mamma Mia (all four by Carl Magnus Palm), ABBA Gold by John Tobler and ABBA The Book and A Tribute to Frida (both by Jean Marie Potiez).

I was very satisfied by Palm's books, he really knows their story well. The other books aren't bad at all, but they can't be compared to Palm's work. Ok, Tobler's book contained a bunch of mistakes, but still it had a lot of great pictures in it.

But I was wondering: Are there any other ABBA books you would recommend reading? I know there are a lot more then those I mentioned here, so I was hoping you could give me some recommendations! :D

Thanks! :)

'ABBA The music still goes on' by Paul Snaith is quite good, it has interviews with abba and some wonderful pictures!! ABBA For The Record by John tobler has some nice rare pictures and is quite good buto nly goes up to 1979!!!

What about the Mamma Mia Book

The first part has Comments by Benny & Bjorn on how the songs of ABBA came to be. Very Interesting really, the second part pf the boom focus's on The Musical itself and the people behind it.

In that case my advice is "The Complete Recording Sessions", one of the best books ever written about ABBA.

Maybe you can lay your hands on a second-hand copy of "Fenomenet Abba", the first real Abba book from 1977. Of course it's not complete, as it ends with "The Album" and "The Movie", but it's the only real and official Abba book that has been released during the Abba years, apart from some magazine-like little books. It was released around the time of the release of "The Album" and "The Movie", so back then I wondered why it wasn't called "The Book"...

It's not difficult obtaining second-hand copies over here in The Netherlands, on online auction sites. The dutch title is "Het Fenomeen Abba". I'm not sure whether it has also been released in english ("The Abba Phenomenon"?).

I also recommend Carl Magnus Palm's "The Complete Recording Sessions". The starting point for this book is Abba's music, but at the same time it also tells the Abba story. Clever book and surely my "Abba bible". Compared to the above mentioned books, Palm's "Bright Lights Dark Shadows" book is a "big read", but it truly is a deep dive into Abba. A new updated release is planned for this spring or summer, so I've heard.

I'd go with Carl Magnus 'Bright Lights, Dark Shadows' for content.

IGNORE 'The Name Of The Game' ('cept for pics...)

BUT 'BLDS' has a TERRIBLE cover and isn't nearly distinctive enough!

"Bright Lights, Dark Shadows" by C M Palm is a must-read for any new fan. It's both accurate and comprehensive, with good before-ABBA histories of each member, including one for the hard-working man behind the scenes - their manager Stikkan Anderson.

"BLDS" will get you up to speed with the whos whys and hows of ABBA. The only negative thing about this book is that it's a bit cold, dry and devoid of any excitement. It's about as moving and exhilirating as a car-repair manual, yet just as useful/essential.
