Hallo zusammen,
sorry, dass ich euch gleich duze und so unverblümt als Rugby Enthusiast anspreche. Ich bin
der "Manager des Deutschen Nationalteams" in Blackout Rugby, einem Rugby Management-
und Simulationsspiel auf dem Web, das in Neuseeland entwickelt wurde und seit 2007 gespielt
werden kann. Meine Position ist im echten Leben natürlich völlig ohne Belang.
In diesem Spiel übernehmen die Spieler die Rolle eines Vereinsmanagers, der sich um
Auswahl, Training, Aufstellung der Spieler eines Rugbyvereins mit je einer Senioren
XV und U20 XV kümmert und um dessen Finanzen und Vorankommen im Ligensystem seines
Landes. Daneben gibt es eben noch Nationalmannschaften und einiges mehr.
Wer Rugby liebt und nicht gerade eine Aversion gegen Spiele oder das Internet hegt, sollte
eigentlich auch Blackout mögen. Das Spiel ist kostenlos, kann aber gegen Gebühr "personalisiert"
werden, das heisst, man bekommt Logos, Statistiken usw. mehr, die aber den Spielerfolg nur
marginal beeinflussen. Das Spiel ist nicht graphisch, kein Ballerspiel, sondern strategisch und
langfristig (viele Jahre) ausgelegt.
Ich bin übrigens auch ganz normaler Mitspieler und somit habe ich mit dem wirtschaftlichen
Erfolg nichts am Hut. Warum schreibe ich euch also an? Deutschland ist gerade gegründet worden
und mit rund 50 Managern ist es eines der kleinsten Rugbynationen in dem Spiel. Ich würde
gerne dafür sorgen, dass mehr Spieler aus Deutschland aktiv werden und dachte mir, dass eine
kleine Nachricht an eure Mitglieder in eurer üblichen Kommunikation vielleicht ein guter Schritt
hierfür wäre.
Die jetzigen deutschen Spieler sind meistens keine Kinder, sondern gestandene Männer,
die zumeist irgendetwas mit Rugby zu tun haben, oft selber spielen. Ohne Englischkenntnisse
ist das Spiel zurzeit noch recht schlecht zu erobern, aber eine Initiative zur Lokalisierung der
Oberfläche ist im Gang. Sport und Internet sollen übrigens nicht miteiander konkurrieren,
sondern können sich ergänzen. Und wenn schon Internet, dann doch lieber so ein Spiel, meint
ihr nicht?
Also wie hört sich das an? Wollt ihr es nicht selbst mal ausprobieren?

Dear Rugby League Deutschland,
sorry for contacting you with this unsolicited message. I approach you from one rugby enthusiast
to another. I am the "manager of the German national team" in Blackout Rugby, a rugby management
and simulation game on the Web, which has been developed in New Zealand and can be played on the
web since 2007. My position is, of course, totally meaningless in real life.
As a player in this game you are taking over the role of a club manager, who takes care of all aspects
of player selection, training, lineups, finance and development of a rugby club with a senior and a U20
XV each. You are competing in leagues with other teams and try to become the champion of the top
division. Next to that, there are national teams and some other side aspects.
If you love rugby and do not hate games or the Internet, you should enjoy Blackout a lot. The game is
free of charge, but there is the possibility to pimp up your club pages and personalize the game with
logos and statistics against a fee, which has no influence on the chances of winning. The game is not
a graphical shoot and run game, but a strategic, long-term oriented (many years) management simulation.
I am, by the way, a normal player as well, which is why I have no share in the financial success of the
game. So why do I contact you? Germany has just been founded and with about 50 managers we are
one of the smallest nations in the game. I would like to see that more players from Germany get
attracted and thought that a small message to your members in your usual communication might be a
good first step for this.
The current players in Germany are mostly no kids, but younger to middle-aged men who mostly have
something to do with rugby in their lives. Several of them play or played the real game themselves.
Sports and the Internet shouldn't compete with each other but complement each other. And if Internet
games, then I would warmly recommend such a game. Don't you think?
