Is SL dead or not? Could you state that clearly nooK?
Is SL dead or not? Could you state that clearly nooK?

That's the question. Forum is dead for sure, what about the map?

Most ppl think that you gave up SL or even gave up mapping at all. So what's the truth?

    Replying without actual reason. Hi.

    First things first:
I've been away from SL for quite some time now, and away from Wc3 all-together for about a month or two. I just suddenly felt like having a look at what's going on around the SL parts nowadays, and straight away I saw this topic, and I just felt like I couldn't pass by without replying. There's a good chance I won't visit this site again for a looong time though, so don't get your hopes up for another reply.

That's the question. Forum is dead for sure, what about the map?

Most ppl think that you gave up SL or even gave up mapping at all. So what's the truth? - Now, saying it like you do is just all wrong. All projects must come to an end at some point, but that doesn't mean they "die", as you so bluntly put it. If this is SL's last version, and that may very well be, then it's just that: The last version of SL. It didn't die, nooK just finally stopped developing it because it was time to move on.

When something dies it is gone forever, beyond revival; gone. It doesn't do anyone any good anymore. That couldn't be further from the truth when speaking of SL. SL brought a lot of joy and challenge to many Wc3 players, and it proved that pure style can be big part of the enhanced gaming experience. I'm sure nooK learned a whole lot from this experience, and maybe, maybe not, we will see him return at some point with a new project in Wc3, or (as I am hoping) in SC2 with so many new doors to open.

Sooo.., what could have maybe saved you from my sudden rant here, would be to rephrase that question of yours into: "Have you stopped developing SL?" and maybe add a little "If you have, then thank you for the many hours of fun, and good luck to you with whatever you choose to do next, whether or not it has anything to do with the modding-scene". At least that's what I would say. Oh heck, let's just say I'm saying just that, plus a little extra on the side:

Hope this isn't the last we see of you nooK! It was always a pleasure to play your map, and it has taught me some valuable lessons that might come in handy should I keep pursuing the path as a game developer that I am currently on. Your game gathered a mighty fine group of people around it, and I'm very thankful to have been a part of it.

    Be proud,
    Aray aka Sadr

For me the map in current form is dead. It just got boring and it needs many changes.

Because it seems to be abandoned, I stopped playing it in favour of AoM(which has been unlagged) and DoE.

And nooK said that he now has time, sth about exams, about update, etc- read "congratulations..." topic.

Maybe I were a bit harsh in the form I asked the question, but he could post something, just a single sentence clearing up the situation...

Here is a situation clearer:SL is dead the reason it died is because it went down hill.It wasn't "finished" as someone above me said it was destroyed.

If you want to play a real true good version of SL id suggest playing some 7.0-8.0 or so.

Otherwise the map is not dead it's just reborn as SL:l,which unfourtanetly still doesn't interest much.

Yes. What we all said would happen happened. SLL was released, SLL sucked. Hey, the first version-you know what-wasn't that bad. KoNL did a few changes nooK was going to even do. Of course the original and non-hacked version always will be a step up because there is no guilt in knowing you're playing a stolen map. However, it sucks now. Even most KoNL members I've spoken to as well as many other certain unnamed people on bnet all admit... it blows ass. They're trying too damn hard to keep it from being anything like dota. Trying so hard it's killing it. The fun is being removed. Sure it's fun for Lyncor and maybe one other person... but it's not the SL we love.

With the distribution of this hacked/stolen version nooK surely lost faith in the project and as did many of us. Depression surely struck many of us equally hard at the lost love of this map. Theft is disgusting. A clan NAMED after such a great guy as nooK stole something which was very dear to him.

The cure and healing of SL? What does the Sir. Menthol.Love think would cure all this madness? KoNL. You know you're wrong. You know you fucked up. You made a mistake in stealing his map. Now, return the map to it's rightful owner and let's move on as if nothing happened. Let's be mature about the situation for the sake of the COMMUNITY (Your reason for stealing his map was for the "Greater good of the community. Well, none of the community like your version so let's put it back to it's original owners hands.) give the map back to nooK.

I'm as disliked here about (about.) as much as KoNL. To my knowledge anyway. Still mutual friends in game with nooK, though, until the other day I had never seen him log in in ages. However that does not mean I'm not an important influence here. The fact that I'm so widely known tells you that obviously I made a big impact. I'm willing to help in anyway that I can, just as I did before. Whatever it takes, if it means sucking up my anger with KoNL for the theft in which they've done then so be it. However, I can not sit here idle any longer. SL is a passion of mine. Hosting it over 30 times a day in the past, now I host it once a month privately for friends. I want that passion back.

Let's be mature. Let's work together to REVIVE SL. SL was booming with activity up until KoNL's theft. Instead of them sitting over there trying desperately to keep it going why not pass the torch back to whom it belonged to in the first place? Doing so would be for the "Greater good of the community".

Half true half lie,I'm gona speak honastly because my hate any other feeling for Knot is prety much gone.

Ya as much as I admire Konl trying to keep SL alive they did way to much work "balancing" it,and although they made some things alot better and easear the new hero truly sucks.1 try was enough to make me say "no" to him.And infact it is true that the first version they relised was better then any further up ones.

However it is not true that the map was booming before they stole it.It wasn't.It was going down hill big time, and the REAL reason it lost any hosting power on the net is BECAUSE KONL STOPED trying to help it.It was doing well untill Konl stopped loosing interest.Well ofcaurse the great TVoS brake up and all that had an impact, maybe a big one but not as big as Konl.

The game was dying before Konl released they'r own version and everyone knew that.It was all fucked up the new heros looked like they had about 1/10th of the work put in them then previous ones.

If we TRULY want to revive SL the only way would be to take one of the oldest version somewhere in 8.0s where omnyoji and dachi where the same and start from there.

But that is all I am saying,I'm sure I am not welcome here as much as Knot or Konl is because I infact threw myself into Konls map which is still better then version .96 no matter what anyone says. However versions at 8.0 were better.

That's all I'v got to say.

But I still got no idea why you guys were complaining about Omnyoji. You said he was supposed to be a nuker, but nooK designed him differently and he isn't. So what? He had a better idea for this hero, I, personally, really enjoyed playing with, he was one of my favourites.

If he's not a nuker, some new hero could be one. Maybe remake of Raikoku, because ,in comparison to other heroes, he's not hmmm... consistent? I mean his spell don't pass together. They are not in the same theme. He doesn't have that THING. Others heroes have, Omny, Ronin and Shinobi are, imo, a masterpiece if we talk about hero-making. They got great spells, beautiful SFX and great spell synergy. And the THEME. I see no theme in Raikoku. He's a mage, that's what we know about him...

But this discussion seems useless because nooK didn't even say "yes" or "no" :/
