    ¿Do you believe in god?
I do not want to create silly topics. But somehow I'm curious.
Reading Elmatto's opinion about the war topic, (started by Rocky, page 3), I just had to ask.
¿Do you guys believe in god?

Be aware that if you answer, you need only to give your point of view, and not offend others' beliefs. Let's be respectful, is just a way to know each other, and form a profile of the community somehow, but that's pretty much it, ok?
    Yes or no will suffice.

    Now, what about me?

    I don't.

    ¿Do you believe in god?
It's not a silly topic at all, I like it! :D
Well, do I believe in God?... I would say I don't know... If you mean in a religious way, I'd say no. But I have a deep respect for any living thing and I know for sure that our life has a meaning, though I can't know what it is and where it will bring us. Let's say I tend more to eastern philosophies or to some aspects of the Red Indians spirituality. Call it God or Energy or Spirit... there is something out there. If you look at it this way, the answer would be yes. :D So... I suppose I have to vote yes... unless you meant it in a strictly religious way...

I'm not a strict religious type, but I do believe in a god, or maybe I should say a creator. The solar system is far too concentric to be natural =)

    It's not silly

I don't believe in god... simply

I can't, I am far too 'rational' to believe in something like this... not even when I'm down, which many non-believers do and I find quite stupid, it's just that it can't stand a scientifical analysis... don't talk me about faith or soul...

I respect all beliefs but I just can't...

    Explanations...
I feel more or less the same, plissken.
I believe that everything that hasn't yet been explained, someday will, just as the weather, or magnetism, or electricity.
With an explanation, the magic dies somehow, that's the sad part, but I can't avoid feeling this way.

    I understand you.

    yeah...

what can I do if I'm far too rational.... lol

I've grown in a religiou school, attending gospel and so... but one day just something inside clicked....

Re: ¿Do you believe in god?

    On God
Of course I believe in God. There is a simple analogy I use to explain why.

The first is a 0/1 analogy.

    Dividing 1/1 = 1.

    Dividing 0/0 = 0.

    Dividing 0/1 = INVALID

    Dividing 1/0 = INVALID

The universe is something (1). You can't get 1 from nothing (0); the only plausible solution is to have always had something (God).

If you're looking for some "hardcore" philosophical truths, check St Thomas Aquinas and "Summa Theologica" or St Augustine.

    You'll be amazed.

For the record, I am Roman Catholic. If you have any questions about the Faith, I'll try to answer them.

Re: ¿Do you believe in god?

    Observador Celeste - 15.07.2004, 15:32

    1/0 - OK!!
I have texts from St. Tomás de Aquino, but I haven't read them; I will now, you made me so curious!
Well, the 1/0 analogy is clear; I agree there must be something to work with in the first place. Indisputable.
We exist, and it doesn't matter if ants or amoebas know, or are aware of it; but we know we are not gods, just beings, perhaps too complex, but nothing supernatural. My guess is that there might be something, way too complex, perhaps we can't even be aware of its existence because our senses won't allow us, but the part I'm not sure about is the divine concept, you know, I'm more into biology and physics. We did not create those ants, perhaps if such being exist, it didn't create us, or doesn't even know we exist yet...

I don't believe in God.

Re: ¿Do you believe in god?

    You've got something there, Celeste
"way too complex, perhaps we can't even be aware of its existence because our senses won't allow us"

There are two classes of being:

    The Creator, and the created.

Absolutely speaking, that's as simple as things get.

We are part of the created. God is, of course, the Creator. We can't explain God, per say, He is after all God, and we are finite things attempting to understand an infinite being. But we do know things about Him, and we can make statements to that end.

Reading Aquinas will do a lot of good. He, like Augustine, has this incredible sense of logic about him.

I don't believe in god 'cause it's too easy think that you has been created by a strange force or soul or the name that you want, called God.
And, you don't think if god really would exist, allow it this cruel acts that has maked in god's name? (terrorist....)
    I think not.

Re: ¿Do you believe in god?

Reliously, no. But in terms of frequency and creations, yes. (I voted for yes, by the way). I feel 'God' is a representation. We affirm things - we want things to happen and it's difficult to comprehend the energy that we have in ourselves, so it's easier to call it 'god'. IMO, you can call it what you want, as long as there is something you believe can do things we normally cannot. In the material world - the conscious world - our visions and thougths are limited to the knowledge we already have and it's difficult again to actually believe we can do something that we normally feel we cannot.

So, it's all about 2 things - energy and information. Every single creature has the power to change ANYTHING he/she wants - it's just a matter of knowning how to.

God is probably the best channel for we go a bit beyond your bounderies there. But religion, I don't support it :) Personal beliefs is fine (like how I believe things work in frequencies).

lol OMG, maybe I babbled too much. :P Anyway, very nice topic :) - just my opinion all that lol :P If sometime you want to hear my crazy theory about working in frequencies (and perception), please ask :D

Re: ¿Do you believe in god?

How can I refuse to know?...
I want. I always want. Is very interesting!!

Oh, I agree with you for almost everything you wrote... The fact that we are limited by our own knowledge reminds me of something by Schopenhauer I read... But I didn't get at all that frequencies thing  I wanna hear your theory about it! Me! Me! I wanna know!!-->Roxy's waving her little hand in the air to get the teacher's attention<--

To Rod: it has nothing to do with this subject, but did you finally get my answer?

Re: ¿Do you believe in god?

    Phoenix - 25.07.2004, 06:54

    god....hmmm.....
I belive that there is 'something' that is so powerful that created everything and that is a part of everything....now if you want to call it God, Alah, Manitou or the Grat Penguin I don't care :D
    Its still the same thing.

....but if you question really meant to be 'are you christian?' then, yes, I'm christian :D

Re: ¿Do you believe in god?

    Belletainen - 14.08.2004, 06:18

I can't say "Yes". My god is a piece of my soul and is not Jesus Christ. Maybe I think like a pagan - my friends are pagans, it-s very interesting to trust in THAT.

P.S. Sorry for my bad English!

Re: ¿Do you believe in god?

    Danbo Daxter - 22.08.2004, 00:51

I believe in a God that wants us to do what we want, as long as it doesn't cause intentional harm onto anyone else (however, you can retaliate, within reason). It kinda makes sense.

I'm also the type to believe in Heaven And Hell, a heaven for the generous/kind, a hell for the spiteful/evil.

Re: ¿Do you believe in god?

    USArmy - 25.08.2004, 14:31

    Alright
So if I punch you in the stomach you're not going to do anything about it because it's the 'will of god'?

Re: ¿Do you believe in god?

    Stas Hoffmann - 01.09.2004, 02:35

yes, most of men can speak so if they hear words of 'will of god' from believing human... It's like a red scarf to a bool for making their fun...

What about me... I don't know... If all religious man would speak of God, calling him 'Creator', I would be one step nearer to believe in this guy%)

    I do.

USArmy wrote: So if I punch you in the stomach you're not going to do anything about it because it's the 'will of god'?

Perhaps the will of God was for you to punch him in the stomach then he/she returns the punch back, is that the will of God too?

I was thinking alot about the question are our life paths set or are they changeable....it's impossible to figure. For example if you get a job in a store and that's the job of your dreams and you decide that that is the path that is set for you and you decide not to take it.....was the refusal your actual path or was it your willing decision with which you have changed your path?

The paths are fixed but we allways have a choice between at least two paths so in some way you are in the control of your life but the paths are set.

Conclusion - There is no freedom....it's a myth and that kind of thing doesn't exist and we are actually eternal prisoners.
So I've actually proven that the will of God exists and it controls you too....like it or not.

note: I've took a christian God for this thesis and examples, it's not necessary to be christian God....it could be Alah, the story is the same

Re: ¿Do you believe in god?

    USArmy - 28.10.2004, 01:39

    Re:
    The way free will works is something of a difficult concept to understand. I suppose the easiest way of explaining it is this;

Predestination is a doctrine based on the supposition that, as God knows all things and thus knows what will happen to us in the future, what we are doing has already occurred (in one sense of the word). Although we live in the present, our present course has been predetermined in the sense that God knows already what we plan on doing next.

Some take this to mean there is no such thing as freedom; I would disagree.

God is not affected by time. While some presume that since He knows what was, is, and ever shall be, that the 'ever-shall-be' part is somehow predestined/determined; and that we have no hand in it. They forget that we are affected by time, and through excercising our free will we carry on through it.

    Hope that makes sense.
